Metallurgy is one of the most energy intensive industries. Reducing CO2 emissions using digital technologies is crucial for meeting the Paris agreement objectives. However, limitations in sharing data among several factories and the diversity of systems, which hinders the replicability of AI, prevent the full adoption of artificial intelligence. The EU-funded ALCHIMIA project creates a federated learning and continual learning-based platform to support major European metallurgy industries in fully adopting AI and the transition to green manufacturing processes. The project therefore addresses the challenges of the steel sector by creating an innovative system that automates and optimises the production process.
